About the Artist
Born in Hartford, Connecticut, Virginia Mallard is a multi-talented artist
(she prefers to be called a "painter")
who has won numerous awards and whose paintings can be found in private and corporate collections around the world. She has lived in Europe, South Africa and various states within the U.S.
Her work has been exhibited widely both here and abroad.
An art teacher for many years, interior designer, technical illustrator and lecturer, she now devotes all her time to painting. The most frequent comment about her work, aside from its brilliant color, is that each piece tells a story.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT
In my approach to painting, the most exciting part is "discovering" or "finding" the painting. I start with no pre-conceptions, neither line nor sketch, working strictly from the unconscious. Intense color is applied in multiple layers. Turning the surface as I collage, scrape, drip and stamp, I look for an emerging thought. Only then does the discovery process begin as I search for the "life" of the piece. This can take days or weeks, but the "finding" is pure joy!
It's my hope that viewers find that joy in their own personal interpretation of my work for "It is the Spectator, and not Life, that art really mirrors!" (Oscar Wilde)
